Speaking from experience- Envelope

After our quick tutorials with John he gave me the idea of somehow packaging the postcards, I hadn't thought about this as was just going to put them in the box, but this makes much more sense. I think I would like to produce an envelope because I'm already making two boxes, the money box and the overall package.

Speaking from experience- Tutorial with John

After explaining my ideas to John the points he made and suggestions he came up with were:
  • Produce an envelope/ box for the postcards to sit in
  • Distribution- could go in the portfolios at the start of the year
  • Sticker on the portfolio to let them know it's there?
  • Net of money box can be any size, just fold it up into the pack, don't restrict the size
  • Bigger postcards.

Speaking from experience- Cheese Box (Money Box)

As one of my products I have contemplated with the idea of making a money box which holds the quote 'cheese is really expensive.' The idea of this is so that students have a little money box to save money, for cheese if they want, just put spare change in whenever they can so they always have money for cheese. It's not a serious idea its just to have some fun with the idea of cheese being expensive.

Ideally the net of the box will fit on an A4 sheet so that the speech bubble box I make to fit everything in at the end will not be bigger than A4.
As of now I am drawing out nets with traingular faces so that in turn it will make the shape of some cheese and I will apply the design from the sticker onto it.

From the first net I assembled, I decided I need to add more height to the box and possibly shorten the length of the triangular side.
From the second net that I made I was aware the the the sides which match need to be exact so that when folded up it fits tightly.

Type and Grid- Thumbnails

Taking an existing magazine layout that we think we can work with we were to measure out the margins and gutters and figure out the grid system. Using the elements of this layout we were to sdraw out a range of thumbnails with out our layout designs on.

Sticker designs

Some of the stickers I am not so keen on, I think I might alter a few of them, like the marmite one, I wanted to use the marmite logo colours but the red and the yellow are the wrong way around.

Advice cards

Postcards

I think for a set of postcards I will have to produce variations of colour and possibly the type as well just so there is a range.

Speaking from experience- Other products

Thinking of more products I could produce with the content I had, I thought it would be appropriate to produce a set of postcards using the 'I miss my mum' so that the student whoever recieves it will be able to send them home to talk to their mum.

Along with this, after speaking to John a couple of weeks ago, he gave me the idea of giving some advice along with these quotes. So, I have decided to create small leaflets/cards which will have a quote on one side and then on the other some basic, light hearted advice to overcome the 'problem.' This will only be appropriate to only some of the quotes, so I won't be using them all.

Basic idea of double sided cards, which will advise students how to overcome small problems like putting on weight etc.

And this is the postcard idea, a basic postcard layout with a speech bubble frame and quote on the front.

Speaking from experience- Speech bubbles

Because my initial idea was to illustrate quote I then came up with the idea of having a speech bubble theme. I am going to place the quotes in speech bubbles so that they can be used in different ways, this way I can produce different products and reproduce the designs.

I drew out a variety of speech bubbles shapes, I want them to range in size and shape so that they are all individual. Also I drew the shapes to cater for the size and shape of the type and how it woulld fit in the frame.

Likewise to the type, I scanned in the drawing and worked with them on Adobe, this way I could manipulate them, fill them and duplicate them to work with.
