100 Negatives of Christmas

From the questionnaires and primary research I had gathered I decided to use quotes and phrases that people has given me to portray 100 negatives or bad things about Christmas.

I intended this to be light hearted and slightly humourous, not to be taken seriously. Looking at Hennie Haworth's work and Eduardo Recife, I wanted to try out using typrography and illustrations possibly in a book.

Collection 100 Categories

In the first week back after Christmas we were given the brief to eventually come up with a product along with packaging, promotion or distribution. In order to get to this stage we firstly had to put all of the research we had gathered into 100 different catergories in order to allow us to break up the research and organise it.

Also, worldwide traditions, things with snow, facts, tales, man-made things, indoor outdoor, positives, negatives and trees.

From this catergorising and more research I figured that a lot of my primary research included people moaning and compliaing about Christmas and how it's changed. Therefore I figured I would focus on the bad side of Christmas, bad presents,consumerism and greed.

Book Binding

In the book binding session we were introduced to three different types of book making, pamphlet stitch, Japanese stitch and concertina. The first two were more basic forms of book binding and concentina involved taking more time and also including a hard back cover like you can see below.

Timelines- Information graphics

Initially we produced our own small timelines, how we got to where we are- our art life, how we got to like our favourite tv program and then a college day.


Then, in partners we were to combine our time lines and produce a whole one of our lives with the use of pictograms. We split it up into years and used above the line and under the line for each person.

Then, in our pairs we joined another two and combined all our timelines and had to come up with one final one. There were certain things that we had all experience or all did everyday and with these we piled them up ontop of each other so the data was organised.

Blue

After our initial session of finding the colour blue around college and documenting it with photography, in the second session we were to go out into the environment and develop this further. I decided to focus on close ups but still keep with the general theme of blue.
